Basic Jiu Jitsu Curriculum – Lesson 22b – The Hip Bump Sweep

The Hip Bump Sweep Overview

The Hip Bump sweep is completely street applicable because you are very close and you can hit it from the confusion of a fight. You can do it from the Kimura or hit it directly.

Basic Hip Bump Sweep in Three Steps:

Start in stage 1 punch block position. BG breaks away and sits up.

  1. 1
Sit Up Elbow To Hand: Uncross your feet and put them on the floor, sit up on your elbow as you reach across his body with the other arm. Then post on your hand as you raise your hips high.
  2. 2
Trap The Arm – Trap over his arm with your free hand so he cannot post. Get “high hips”. Raise hips into him as high as possible. Far foot tucks back by your hip for more elevation.
  3. 3
Sweep: thrust your hips towards the BACK CORNER (reach your hips over his FOOT) and sweep him over to mount

    a. Most common error – not sufficiently trapping the opponent’s arm
