Basic Jiu Jitsu Curriculum – Lesson 20e – Sucker Punch Defense – Clinch

Sucker Punch Defenses:

  1. 1
Pre-emptive Elbow pull & shoulder push to RNC - he draws shoulder back, pop and turn.
  2. 2
Reactive: Clinch & hit them in the chest (fastest reaction) body lock, take the back and RNC

Jiu Jitsu Drill – Stand in a face to face argument position. De-escalation stance. Sucker punch with open hand and counter with both variations.

Closing Statement – Unless an attack is premeditated, fights are spontaneous events over a perceived wrongdoing. The best way to never lose a fight is not get in one in the first place. Being able to recognize a spontaneous threat and de-escalate the situation is your best option. Maintain the de-escalation stance and monitor his shoulders. If the sucker punch comes, use one of the above tactics to end the situation.
