Basic Jiu Jitsu Curriculum – Lesson 10d – Mount Transitions

Mount Transition: The Knee Slide:

  1. 1
Continue to hold side control until BG is exhausted. Don't rush. The more time it takes to mount, the more exhausted he's going to be.
  2. 2
When they are exhausted it is time to mount. Tip - get the near top knee inside his armpit to make the transition easier (not necessary but helpful).
  3. 3
Both knees close to his body.
  4. 4
Slide the bottom knee across his stomach, lean forward, as you post far hand out for base. Head comes forward and bring knee to the ground.
  5. 5
Slide the knee north and stretch your body (so the foot can clear the legs) and then a slight turn of the hips to slap the foot over
  6. 6
Shoot grapevines or just shoot your knee forward to get a high mount.

Mount Transition 2: The Leg Switch

Switch your legs as you face south, swing leg over.

Jiu Jitsu Drill - Practice all versions of control from the side control, take the mount and practice all variations of mount control (Grapevines, Hip Pressure, & Hook and Post, Low and High Swims, Headlock From the Bottom).

It is easier to win a fight from the mount, (the mount is a better attacking position) but it is easier to hold a BG from side control. So, don't rush to the mount. Hold and exhaust their energy so that when you do get the mount, they will be too tired to fight back.
