Taking The Back From The Guard Overview:
The back is one of the most dominant positions you can be in during a fight. He has no offense he can launch against you, and you have a ton of offensive moves you can use against him. The most important and decisive finish is the Rear Naked Choke. This lesson will teach you how to get the back from the guard.
Defensive variation: From The Forearm Choke:
BG will try to hit you. If that doesn't work, they might try to swim their arm in and drive their forearm in your throat. Here’s what to do:
- 1Get Head And Arm Control: Get the weight off of your neck. Control the other arm by hooking the tricep so he cannot hit you. Use your crossed legs to push him away. Shove the arm across and drop him. Wrap his head and arm with a Gable grip. (Do NOT push his arm under your arm. Keep it over your arm as you push it across). Use your inner thighs against his body to shimmy out to the side. Keep head close and RECROSS your legs.
- 2Get A Bigger Angle: BG will go crazy. Chill and let him exhaust himself. Plant near foot on the floor and shrimp out more and recross as your arm grip lowers with your elbow down to the floor.
- 3Get The First Hook: Pull his head and arm by arching your back as you stomp your far leg down against his knee. Get your leg on the inside When BG brings his knee back, you have the first hook. (if his leg doesn't flatten all the way, use the space you did create to just retract your leg and insert the hook anyway). Bring that knee up. Keep the top leg biting his back (otherwise he can step over and get the mount).
Final Getup: Grab the far side of ribs as deep as possible. Balancing on your shoulder and bottom foot, pull, and BRING YOUR BOTTOM KNEE OUT AND POST IT ON THE FLOOR. (you don’t need to get up on your hand or elbow first. You post on your shoulder and get up on that knee first.) Then the second hand posts on floor, leg that was biting the back now shoots in for a the second hook, get on the back.
