The Trap And Roll Escape (Basic Variation)
The goal to winning a fight is to close the distance, get a clinch and take the fight to the ground with you on top in the mount. The mount is one of the most dominant positions in a fight.
But sometimes things do not go according to plan and you can end up mounted. This can be a terrifying situation.
If a bad guy (BG) mounts you, they can strike or strangle you and you cannot strike back. You might even panic and become exhausted from being mounted like this.
The Trap and Roll escape is designed to get you out of this position and get you back on top.
We will be covering three versions of the trap and roll escape, the basic choke variation (here) and in later videos, the punch block and headlock escape variations.
Key Points:
- 1Trap one arm and the foot on the same side, all at once (Monkey grip on the hand, cup the elbow so he can't pull out and can’t post. Also pushing the BG’s knee with your elbow helps make the foot accessible.
- 2Pin his arm to your chest
- 3Bridge up to 12 o’clock. Try to plant the BG’s face north, right above your head.
- 4Turn on your shoulder
