The Psychology of Winning: Ten Qualities Of A Total Winner

 Study Guide Chapter 8:

“Positive Self-Discipline”

What is positive self-discipline?

Self-discipline is the ability to make yourself do what you have to do when you have to do it, whether you feel like it or not.

Self-discipline has been called the key to personal greatness.

It is the one quality that separates the successful from the mediocre and the greats from the average.

The reason why is because it is easy to do something when you feel like it.

Most people are lazy. They don’t like doing hard things.

It’s when you don’t feel like it and you force yourself to do it anyway that you really start to make progress towards your goals.

The key point in this chapter is PRACTICE. To be good at something you have to practice a lot, both physically and mentally.

Winners always have self-discipline. They have the ability to make themselves do the tough things they need to do in order to reach their goals.

Why is positive self-discipline important?

To be good or successful at anything involves WORK. Setting goals is not enough. You have to take ACTION.

You have to make yourself get up and go do something every day that gets you closer to your goal.

Without self-discipline you might as well forget about your goals. Even if you say those goals are important to you, you won’t achieve them without self-discipline.

But with self-discipline, you can achieve any goal that is possible. When you make self-discipline a habit in your life, you will automatically achieve more.

Action Item: Build more self-discipline this week. Take home a self-discipline worksheet and fill it out to receive a merit stripe.
