How To Deal With Adversity, Obstacles and Failures
(And Not Let These Things Kill Your Good Attitude)
It’s easy to have a good attitude when things are going well. Anybody can do that. The question is how can you maintain a good attitude when things don’t go like you want them to?
The key to this is to learn how to deal with adversity and failures.
Here’s the rule:
“Fail Early, Fail Often, and Fail Forward”
“In order to achieve your dreams, you must embrace adversity and make failure a regular part of your life. If you are not failing, you’re probably not really moving forward.” – John Maxwell
Always remember that success comes through repeated failures and always involves a constant struggle. Adversity and failure are not just to be expected, but they are a critical part of success.
Failing is a healthy inevitable process of getting to the top in any area of life.
Take the example of a circus trapeze artist. They look amazing in their performance at the circus. Do you realize how many times those people have fallen in practice?
THE ONLY WAY TO GET AHEAD IS TO FAIL EARLY, FAIL OFTEN, AND FAIL FORWARD
This is a fact of life and there is no getting around it.
Because of this here are 5 reasons to embrace adversity and failure:
5 Reasons To Embrace Adversity and Failure
- Adversity Creates Resilience: Adversity toughens you up and make it easier to handle problems later. Nothing in life breeds resilience like failure. People with resilience are better able to handle adversity. ADVERSITY MAKES YOU STRONGER.
- Adversity Develops Maturity - Adversity helps you mature. Wisdom comes from struggle. You become wiser after making many mistakes. In jiu jitsu, you get better every time you tap. You become a wiser fighter. You learn where to put your arms. You learn to do this and not that. The same goes for life. Mistakes are how we learn.
- Adversity Builds Confidence: Adversity challenges you and builds confidence – when you learn that you can push through adversity you become more confident about yourself. The more hard times you have endured the more confident you become.
- Adversity Motivates And Builds Creativity: Adversity pushes you to try different things than you would have tried. Problems call for creative thinking
- Adversity Brings Unexpected Benefits – Some of the greatest stories of success come from the unexpected benefits of “failing”. A young guy back in the 70s named Bernie Marcus was fired from his job at a hardware store. Failure. Adversity. No job! So Bernie decided to start his own hardware store. He called it Home Depot! Thomas Edison discovered the phonograph when trying to invent something completely different. There are tons of examples of this.
